Rescue crews called to two canal incidents

11/10/11: There were two separate incidents of men being rescued from canals by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue services over the first weekend of October. .

The service was called to Wigan on Saturday after receiving reports that a man had been seen in the River Douglas shortly before 7.30am.

Crews were deployed from Eccles and Wigan. The Rescue Boat also attended; rope equipment and ladders were used to rescue the man. Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was transferred to hospital.

At approximately 3.50am on 2 October, men from the Incident unit at Eccles as well as a crew from Salford helped another man who had fallen into the Manchester Ship Canal near Water Street.

The area was searched and the man was found just after 4am. He was rescued with a
Ladder and fire fighters gave him oxygen before the ambulance took him to hospital.
