What Is Silicosis?

Silicosis is a chronic fibrotic pulmonary disease which is caused by inhalation of crystalline silica. In most cases, silicosis is caused by being exposed to silica dust over a prolonged period of time.

Symptoms of silicosis may be absent during the first few years. However, as the condition progresses, the victim may start experiencing symptoms such as dry cough, fever, shortness of breath, exhaustion and fever. The symptoms and the severity of the condition usually depend on the type of exposure and the type of silicosis that the person has developed.
