Compensation awarded to schoolgirl

02/12/11: A schoolgirl has received compensation following a dog attack on a school trip.

The girl, who was 11 at the time of the attack, has received £750 from the owner of the dog which bit her and left her with a 5inch scar on her leg.

The girl was in a county park at the time of the incident along with about 70 other pupils from the same school and was bitten so badly that she had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

The dog had not been provoked and has subsequently been destroyed after its owner admitted to Wolverhampton Magistrates that it was not on a lead or muzzled at the time of the incident. The dog owner also admitted that the dog was out of control and that he had taken no action to protect the girl or anybody else.

Prosecuting counsel also told the court that the girl has also suffered psychological injuries from the attack which wasn’t only severe but prolonged as well as witnesses were too afraid to drag the dog away from her.
