Driver and Passenger Cut from Wrecked Classic Car

The driver of a Morgan Plus 4 vintage car was seriously injured after a collision with another car on a road in the Borders.

The 56 year old male driver had to be cut free from the damaged car by fire crews together with a 53 year old female who was travelling as a passenger. The incident occurred on Friday on the A703, when the classic 1950s sports car crashed with a Skoda Octavia. The driver of the Octavia was also cut free from the wreckage.

All three involved were taken by ambulance 20 miles from the crash site to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Hospital staff confirmed the male driver’s condition was serious.

The accident happened around two miles north of the town of Peebles at approximately 9pm on 19th August. The A703 was closed for 5 hours while the wreckage was cleaned away.

The Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed that both the male and female in the Morgan Plus 4 were trapped in the wreckage and were given oxygen therapy until fire fighters could release them from the car.
