Fine for CW Dobbs of Spalding

A farming company from Lincolnshire has received a fine of £7k following a forklift truck hitting an agency worker.
Algis Jevsejevas, aged 45, broke his leg in the accident which happened at property belonging to CW Dobbs, near Spalding in October 2010.

Mr Jevsejevas was collecting box labels from the potato grading hut when the forklift truck reversed into him.
Since the accident Mr Jevsejevas has returned to Lithuania

Speaking after the hearing, a HSE inspector commented that the accident need never have happened. The firm should have ensured that as far as possible the workers and vehicles were segregated by a physical barrier.

A barrier has been erected by the farmer since the accident; he has also relocated the labels to another section of the hut, closer to where they are used. This shows that it is possible to implement preventative measures inexpensively and simply.

CW Dobbs of Spalding was fined £7k and received an cost order for £2,588 after pleading guilty to breaching H&S regulations.
