Fine for Davidson Williams (Merseyside) Ltd

The Wirral magistrates Court was told on 5th July, how three workers were seen affecting repairs on the sloping roof of a warehouse, about sixteen metres above the ground. There were no suitable safety measures in place to prevent them falling and sustaining in jury. They were not wearing harnesses.

Initially, two of the workers were viewed walking along the sloping roof at Vittoria Dock on the 24th November 2011 checking for leaks. There are about 400 clear light panels located on the roof, which could have broken if stepped upon.

Davidson Williams (Merseyside) Ltd of Corporation Road, Birkenhead, the employer of the workers, was prosecuted following photographs of the unsafe working conditions being sent to the authorities. The company entered a plea of guilty to breaching Regulation 6(3) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 by failing to take measures to prevent workers being injured in a fall.

The Court imposed a fine on the company of £3,500 with an order to pay £1,500 towards the cost of the prosecution.
